Russia and China are fully responsible for supporting the inhuman regime in Damascus – said U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Sunday at a press conference in Sofia.
She arrived the Bulgarian capital from Munich on Sunday with nearly one-hour delay due to bad weather conditions.
Commenting on the veto by Russia and China to the UN resolution that condemns the regime of Bashar al-Assad in Syria, Clinton stressed that these countries “bear full responsibility for supporting the brutal regime in Damascus. Tragic is the fact that after the heavy work done, we have the result voting (by Resolution) 13:2. ”
Her five-hour visit to Bulgaria began with a meeting with Bulgarian President Rosen Plevnelievym. The two sides discussed issues of security in the Balkan region, the situation in Syria, the prospects for political, economic and military-technical cooperation between the two countries.
Hillary Clinton discussed the same questions with the Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borisov and Bulgarian ministers.
At a joint press conference, Clinton stressed that Bulgaria is an important partner for the United States and NATO.
“This year we will hold a series of joint exercises between the various armed services. We are looking for ways to deepen military cooperation and to determine in which direction they should develop in the future. Bulgaria has proved to be our true partner, to whom we have the most profound respect,” – Hillary Clinton said.
“These 13 votes were given not only by European countries, it was the voice of a unified international community, which wants to stop the violence. We will continue the diplomatic onslaught (to the regime of Bashar al-Assad), we’ll provide humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people, and in the next few days will consult with our partners around the world. We must redouble our efforts with those outside the UN allies and partners who support the right of the Syrian people for a better future, “- said Hillary Clinton.
